Stinky Tofu

One of Taiwanese traditional food, stinky tofu, is a form of fermented tofu. Stinky tofu which is easy found at night markets is a direct translation of Mandarin. It represents one aspect of the Taiwanese culture. Stinky tofu is well-known for its special process. Most typically, stinky tofu contains tofu which has been marinated in brine and fermented vegetables. Stinky tofu could be eaten after preserving for several weeks to several months.
Stinky tofu is made of different ways in various areas. Stinky tofu is the unofficial national snack food of Taiwan and is universally loved. It is very commonly served on roadside stands and in night markets. There are Spicy Stinky Tofu, Steamed Stinky Tofu, Deep fried Stinky Tofu and Grilled Stinky Tofu. Stinky tofu is name because of its strong smell. Even a distance, the odor of stinky tofu would be noticed. So, many foreigners and even Taiwanese detest it. In spite of its smell, the flavor is surprisingly mild.
